Arica Beach and the Altiplano Valley
Arica known as "The City of Eternal Spring, is the place to go if you don't want to worry about getting rained on during your vacation. Many People who live here cannot even remember ever seeing it rain, as it rains only 2 to 3 times in every 100 years. Arica is the most northern city in Chile and is located on the coast of the world's driest desert.
Once part of Bolivia Arica became Chilean territory in the War of the Pacific. Arica still functions as Bolivia's access to the sea, connected to Bolivia by train.
Arica is a developing seaside resort, with golden sand dunes, miles of seashore, duty-free shopping and lively nightlife. Arica is also the gateway to inland ruins of ancient cultures, Lauca National Park with its many animal species including vicuña, alpaca, nandu and wild chinchilla, volcanos and the highest mountain lake in the world.
It has a great beach where you can enjoy the sun and take a swim. If you take a tour or rent a car you can drive up to the Green Uta valley. This valley cuts through the desert with water from rain and melting snow higher up in the Andes Mountains. There is a lot of history and life in this area. It's one of favorite areas for visitors.
